Tinashe A. Mazhindu is a clinical and radiation oncologist based in Harare, Zimbabwe. Graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees (MBChB) and Master’s degree in Medicine-Radiotherapy & Oncology with Merit from the University of Zimbabwe. Currently he is a PhD fellow in the Department of Oncology at the University of Zimbabwe and a senior scientist at the African Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology (AiBST). His research is focused on clinical pharmacogenomics, implementation sciences in genomics & therapeutics, genomics-integrated clinical trial design and biomarker discovery in oncology. These studies focus on individuals of African-ancestry and experimenting with use of type 2 hybrid (clinical) implementation science designs with pharmacokinetic, genetic biomarker discovery and feasibility of clinical integration endpoints. These studies involve both quantitative and qualitative research projects in optimizing outcomes for gastrointestinal cancer patients and forms part of the iPROTECTA Africa project. Other cancer research works past and ongoing have involved international collaboration between the University of Zimbabwe, University of Colorado Denver and Stanford University.
Tinashe is a recipient of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) Global health equity scholar of the year award for 2021 and an appointment at Stanford University, School of Medicine as a short-term visiting scholar in the Department of Chemicals & Systems Biology under the SPARK at Stanford translational research program. He has also worked as part of the African Cancer Coalition thoracic cancers working group NCCN harmonized guidelines for Sub-Saharan Africa.
